My 2020 reading list

JCSW reading list

(English version below as well)

The Great Mental Models, Volume 2: Physics, Chemistry and Biology - Shane Parrish (lien)

Boyd: The Fighter Pilot Who Changed the Art of War - Robert Coram (lien)

UnHealthcare: A Manifesto for Health Assurance - Hemant Taneja & Stephen Klasko (lien)

No Filter: The Inside Story of Instagram - Sarah Frier (lien)

7 Powers: The Foundations of Business Strategy - Hamilton Helmer (lien)

Thinking in Bets - Annie Duke (lien)

No Rules Rules: Netflix and the Culture of Reinvention - Reed Hastings & Erin Meyer (lien)

Magellan - Stefan Zweig (lien)

JCSW reading list

To take a step back from 2020, and maybe give you some ideas for 2021, I wanted to share with you the 10 books I've enjoyed the most this year. I hope you will enjoy reading them as much as I did!

And in case you were looking for an 11th one, I heard Healthy Business is pretty good 😊

The Great Mental Models, Volume 2: Physics, Chemistry and Biology - Shane Parrish (link)

Really good lessons on what mental models to use, and how to improve ourselves as individuals and our organization based on those mental models.

Boyd: The Fighter Pilot Who Changed the Art of War - Robert Coram (link)

More than just an exceptional pilot, Boyd was a great strategist and tactician. He also revolutionized the design and construction of fighter aircraft.

UnHealthcare: A Manifesto for Health Assurance - Hemant Taneja & Stephen Klasko (link)

Key principles to build a system designed to help us need as little healthcare as possible - to help us mostly forget about doctors, pills, hospitals, and insurance companies (yes, you read that well, and we are working on it).

No Filter: The Inside Story of Instagram - Sarah Frier (link)

Sarah Frier goes behind the scenes of Instagram's rise to become the most culturally significant application of the decade.

7 Powers: The Foundations of Business Strategy - Hamilton Helmer (link)

7 Powers is a good example for discussing a long-term strategy with key principles that can be mobilized by everyone in the company.

Le déclic créatif - Yaron Herman (link)

We learn that creativity does not develop by chance, that it is a matter of method, that it must be associated with a framework and constraints, all while getting organized in order to overcome the initial inertia.

Another book that I found particularly useful on the subject of a child's sleep, and that I wanted to share with fellow young parents.

Thinking in Bets - Annie Duke (link)

The recipe for long-term success is to think probabilistically: how certain am I? what are the possible outcomes? what decisions have the highest probability of success? is my success (or failure) due to luck or decision making?

No Rules Rules: Netflix and the Culture of Reinvention - Reed Hastings & Erin Meyer (link)

How to build a radically different corporate culture; one that has greatly inspired Alan's.

Magellan - Stefan Zweig (link)

How the story of a 16th century Portuguese navigator can inspire us to innovate and take calculated risks.
